Safeguarding statement

1. Our commitment

CURIOO exists to help children and young people thrive. Nothing we do matters more than keeping them safe while they do it. This statement sets out the standards CURIOO LIMITED applies to its own staff and mentors, requires of the licensed partners who operate CURIOOkids Studios, and builds into the projects that Campus teachers run in schools. It is written for parents and schools; the detailed procedures behind it are held internally and shared with partners and schools on request.

2. In CURIOOkids Studios

Studios are operated by independent licensed partners. Every partner agreement requires the partner to: carry out the background and criminal-record checks that local law provides for on every adult who works with children, before they start; hold a written child-protection policy and a named safeguarding lead; train staff in recognising and reporting concerns; follow safe-recruitment, supervision and ratio standards set by CURIOO; and report any safeguarding incident to CURIOO within 24 hours. CURIOO audits these requirements as part of partner quality reviews and can suspend or end a licence where they are not met.

3. Online: the Signature Project

Signature Project cohorts are delivered live online to students aged 14–17. Our standards for online delivery are:

  • Every mentor is identity-verified and background-checked before their first cohort, and trained in online safeguarding.
  • All sessions are recorded and the recordings retained for the period stated in our privacy policy, so that any concern can be reviewed.
  • Mentors contact students only through the cohort platform, never through personal phone numbers, social media or private messaging, and never arrange to meet a student in person.
  • Parents and guardians receive the session schedule, can request access to recordings, and are our point of contact for any student under 16.
  • Students are told at the start of the cohort how to report anything that makes them uncomfortable, and that they can do so to someone other than their mentor.

4. In schools: CURIOO Campus

Campus is a curriculum used by teachers under their own school’s safeguarding arrangements; CURIOO staff do not work with students and Campus holds no student data. The curriculum itself is written to keep students safe when they work with real people and real tools: every project includes consent and participant-data templates, guidance on approved AI tools and on never entering identifiable data into them, and audience and partner briefs for showcases. Teachers keep responsibility for applying their school’s policies to every activity.

5. CURIOO staff

All CURIOO LIMITED staff and contractors whose role could bring them into contact with children, including curriculum authors who visit classrooms and staff who attend showcases, are background-checked in accordance with the law of the country in which they work and complete safeguarding training on joining and every two years.

6. Raising a concern

If you are worried about a child’s safety in any CURIOO setting, tell the studio’s safeguarding lead or the school first, so that local procedures can start straight away. If a child is in immediate danger, contact the local emergency services.
